Description
The Strike King Super Scout is one of the earliest crankbaits in the Strike King catalogue - appearing in the oldest known Strike King catalogue alongside the Spence Spook and wooden Big S, placing this wooden example in the foundational era of a company built by Charles Spence near the Memphis airport and promoted by Bill Dance, who became the most successful tournament angler in the early years of the sport before becoming a nationally known television personality. Designed to run from 5 to 6 feet deep and fished around objects, the Super Scout's original packaging instructs: "Do not fish without skirt for it adds additional action and appeal" - the original white rubber skirt on the rear treble hook is present and intact on this example, an extremely rare survival for a lure of this age. The packaging carries both Charles Spence's printed signature and fishing instructions, and Bill Dance's endorsement as "Tested and Endorsed by - Star of Nationally Televised Bill Dance Outdoors" - a direct connection to the most recognisable name in American bass fishing history during the Super Scout's production era.
The Pearl White colourway with blue eye socket and red gill marking is one of the most classic American crankbait colour combinations, imitating a shiner baitfish in the universal white-red-head format that has proven effective on bass across every decade of American fishing.
