Description
Nicknamed "Hachimaru" (Japanese for eighty) the X-80 SW is one of the most consequential saltwater minnows ever engineered, a lure that effectively created the modern Japanese seabass jerkbait category and has been in continuous use by inshore anglers across Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia for decades. Megabass re-engineered the freshwater X-80 platform from the inside out for saltwater duty - repositioning the weight system with a fixed low-centre-of-gravity balancer at the front and a pair of tungsten weights at the rear, producing the X-80 SW's characteristic rolling de-orbit action that no conventional slim minnow could replicate at the same retrieve speed. The slow-sinking setting suspends the lure between the surface and the mid-column, keeping it in the feeding zone on the pause without floating clear or sinking through it - a differentiated approach that proved particularly effective in the bay environments of Tokyo and Osaka Bay where the lure was repeatedly field-tested before release.
The GG Akakin colourway carries one of the deepest histories in the Megabass catalogue - tracing directly back to the original "Akakin" stripe colour of the early 1990s, now rendered in Guanium Ghost holographic finish - while the green eye variant adds a production distinction that serious X-80 collectors actively distinguish from the standard red-eye examples.
