Description
James Heddon's Sons of Dowagiac, Michigan - the company that produced the world's first commercially manufactured fishing lure in 1902 - created the Crazy Crawler as one of their most distinctive topwater presentations: a surface lure whose twin metal wing paddles rotate on the retrieve to produce a distinctive crawling, gurgling wake that generates explosive strikes from bass in calm to moderately choppy surface conditions.
The Tiny Crazy Crawler is the compact version of the full-sized Crazy Crawler, measuring just 1.75 inches and weighing a quarter ounce - bringing the same wing-paddle surface action to finesse presentations around lily pads, dock edges, and calm surface pockets where the larger model generates too much disturbance. This example comes in its original Heddon slide-out box with the original "How to catch 'em on Crazy Crawler" instructions printed on the box - and carries an extraordinary period provenance detail in the form of an original Ohio Auto Store retail price sticker, the hardware and auto parts stores common throughout Ohio that commonly sold fishing tackle alongside their core inventory in the mid-20th century.
The BWH (Black/White Head) colourway presents a deep gloss black body with a white spherical head section and gold eye - one of the most visually striking and contrast-rich colour combinations in the Tiny Crazy Crawler range, imitating a dark insect body with a pale, round head at the surface.
