Description

The Heddon Crackleback occupies a singular position in American lure history - a plastic crankbait introduced in 1971 that deliberately revived the "Crackle" or "Fancy Back" paint treatment first used by Heddon on their earliest wooden lures at the turn of the 20th century, connecting a 1970s production piece to the founding aesthetic of one of America's oldest and most significant lure companies. Produced for only five years between 1971 and 1976, the Crackleback was available in just ten original colours - later expanded to eleven with the addition of SSD Silver Shad in 1972 - making each colour a genuinely limited production item. Its distinctive whale or dolphin-shaped body with an oversized diving lip delivers a wide-wobble deep-running action, with the lure's name "Heddon Crackleback" stenciled on the underside of the diving lip as the primary identification marker.

The WBC (White Black Crackle) colourway is one of the original ten colours from the 1971 first-year catalogue - a deep gloss black crackle pattern over the entire body and diving lip with white lightning-crack detailing, cream eye, and red-orange gill accent visible on the belly, presenting as one of the most visually striking and immediately recognisable patterns in the Crackleback range.
